O’Brien Civil delivered these early works for the Greater Connect Alliance in preparation for the Great Eastern Highway bypass construction.
Works involved service relocations, pipe and box culverts, in-situ concrete works, deep drainage, final trim earthworks, extension of water mains and basin construction. All works were successfully delivered to time and budget under MRWA, City of Swan, and City of Kalamunda specifications and requirements.

Bulk earthworks included excavating 50,000m3 of materials using O’Brien Civil excavators, installation of 10km of pit and pipe, stormwater detention tanks, approximately 13km of drains and culverts, and more than thirty separate FRP pit upgrades.
Detailed earthwork were also completed for a series of rock batter preparations and constructions in addition to V drains, swale drains, and host of other in-ground services.
The O’Brien Civil team was also responsible for the completion of road pavement and brick pavement constructions for access ways and car parks.

As a part of the major upgrade of the Mitchell Freeway southbound, between Hester Avenue and Warwick Road, Liwara School required modifications to the carpark to accommodate changes to the PSP (as it was situated immediately adjacent to the school).
This result was a full redevelopment of the car park which also including a new and improved drainage system to minimise future flood events.
Due to the projects close proximity to the school, residential housing and live PSP, the contract adopted stringent safety and environmental controls and close coordination with the local community and other stakeholders.

The City of Joondalup’s existing Ocean Reef Boat Harbour is being transformed into a world-class waterfront residential precinct complete with recreational, tourism, and boating facilities.
O’Brien Civil was awarded a drainage package by Georgiou to complete bulk earthworks, installation of underground stormwater detention tanks and an associated stormwater pit and pipe network.
Challenges included working directly on the WA coastline within a mixed geology site, rock excavation, control of ground water and foundation embankment construction.
